Paragould, Ark. – The University of Victoria men's golf team captured its third-straight Continental Athletic Conference Championship, April 30, at Paragould Country Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Owen Croft captured individual medallist honours, posting the top individual finish with rounds of 70, 68, and 71 to finish at -1 overall on the par-70 course.
- Taking second individually was Aiden Craig-Steele, posting the tournament's lowest round one score of 68, followed by rounds of 71 and 76 to finish at +5 overall.
- Posting rounds of 72 and 74 to sit at +6 through 36 holes, Zach Ryujin carded his best round of 71 on the final day to finish in a tie for fourth individually at +7 overall.
- Making his Vikes debut, Shunkichi Yamamoto took ninth place overall at +16 following rounds of 74, 78, and 74.
- Rounding out the Vikes' five was Daniel Kirby, who posted an improved score in each round of play with rounds of 86, 74, and a Vikes-low 69 in the final round to finish at +19 and in 11th place individually.
- As a team, the Vikes held a 25-shot lead after the first 36 holes of play, shooting a collective +4 and +7 on day one. Going +5 on the final day of action, the Vikes finished at +16 overall to capture the team title, 41 strokes ahead of second-place Talladega College.
- The tournament win punches the Vikes' ticket to the NAIA Men's Golf Championships, May 21-24.
UP NEXT
The Vikes head to the NAIA National Championships. The women's tournament takes place May 14-17 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., while the men's tournament runs from May 21-24 at the Dalton Golf and Country Club in Dalton, Ga.
