Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria men's basketball team defeated Trinity Western University 98-91 for their home opener, Oct. 24 at CARSA performance gym.
Vikes took the lead and never relinquished
- The Vikes came out with energy and propelled themselves to a 25-19 lead after the first quarter.
- On the back of Shadynn Smid and his stellar play, the Vikes took a 44-38 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Smid dazzled, and the Vikes closed the game out
- More of the same for the Vikes in the second half. The Spartans were limited to only six three-pointers as the Vikes played tenacious defence.
- Shadynn Smid's career night was highlighted by an emphatic dunk in the fourth quarter, which brought the arena to its feet.

- Shadynn Smid put on a show for the home fans as he set a new career high in points with his 36.
- Smid also led the way for Vikes on the glass as he corralled 12 rebounds.
- The Vikes continue their undefeated streak from last year as they move to 1-0. The Spartans will fall to 0-1 with the loss on opening night.
The Vikes will be back in action as they travel to Abbotsford, BC, to take on the University of Fraser Valley, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m.
