Basketball faces UBCO in final weekend series of regular season

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria men's and women's basketball teams head to the University of British Columbia Okangan for the final weekend series of the Canada West regular season, Feb. 14-15.

LAST 5 MEETINGS
  • Victoria is 4-1 against the Heat in the last five meetings on the men's side, and 3-2 against UBCO in the last five meetings on the women's side.
  • The Vikes and Heat met once earlier this season during a split weekend, Jan. 25 at CARSA Performance Gym. The Vikes men came away with the 85-70 win, and the women beat the Heat by a score of 70-65.

  • The Vikes' men's side enters the weekend at 18-0 on the year and ranked No. 1 in the latest U SPORTS Top 10 poll, coming off 76-47 and 73-64 wins over Thompson Rivers, Feb. 7-8 at CARSA. They will face a 4-14 UBCO team that fell in two games to UBC one weekend ago.
  • Following 43-40 and 80-78 home wins over Thompson Rivers, Feb. 7-8, the Vikes' women's side holds an 11-7 mark on the season. They'll face a 6-12 UBCO side coming off two losses to UBC, Feb. 14-15.
  • Abigail Becker leads the Vikes in scoring and rebounding, with 14.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game averages. Her scoring average ranks 12th in Canada West, while she leads the league in rebounding. Becker is coming off a career-high 30-point performance against the WolfPack, Feb. 8.
  • Tana Pankratz's 38.9% field goal shooting percentage ranks fourth in the league, and holds an 11.8 points per game average for the Vikes.
  • Renoldo Robinson leads the scoring efforts for the Vikes men with a 15.7 points per game average. Ethan Boag leads the rebounding at 5.6 per game.
  • The Vikes men hold two of the top three spots in three-point shooting percentage for the league, with Griffin Arnatt holding the top spot at 56.8% and Ryan Gallagher ranking third at 50.0%. Gallagher also ranks fifth in the league in overall field goal percentage at 55.1%.
  • Both the Vikes men's and women's teams have secured playoff berths. The Vikes men have secured the top seed in the pacific division and will host the first round of playoffs at CARSA Performance Gym, Feb. 21-22. The Vikes women currently sit in, and can finish as high as third place in the pacific division and will be on the road for the first weekend of postseason play.
