Men's basketball opens Canada West playoffs on home court

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria men's basketball team will host its quarterfinal matchup at CARSA Performance Gym, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. The Vikes will take on the winner of the University of Lethbridge versus University of the Fraser Valley matchup from Feb. 21.

LAST 5 MEETINGS
  • The Vikes are 4-1 against Lethbridge in the last five meetings between the two sides. Most recently matching up Jan. 31-Feb. 1 in Lethbridge, the Vikes came away with 83-75 and 83-67 wins over the Pronghorns.
  • Victoria is 5-0 against Fraser Valley in the last five meetings. Matching up three times during the 2024-25 season, the Vikes won game one in Victoria, 91-65 (Nov. 2), and swept the road series with 98-77 and 100-75 wins (Nov. 22-23).
NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes enter the quarterfinals at 20-0 on the season, completing the program's fourth undefeated conference season and first under rookie head coach Murphy Burnatowski with a pair of wins at UBC Okanagan, Feb. 14-15. Finishing at the top of the pacific division standings, the Vikes hold the top seed for the tournament for the third-straight year.
  • Victoria also enters as the three-time defending Canada West Championships, having won the conference banners in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
  • The eighth-seeded Pronghorns finished the Canada West season at 11-9 and in fourth place in the prairie division, while UFV finished fifth in the pacific with a 9-11 mark.
  • Sergio Pereira was named the Canada West Player of the Week, Feb. 18, for his two double-double performances at UBCO to help the Vikes finish the year at 20-0. Pereira ranks second on the Vikes with a 5.5 rebounds per game average.
  • Renoldo Robinson leads the Vikes in scoring with a 15.3 points per game clip. Ethan Boag is averaging 13.2 points and a team-high 5.6 rebounds per game for Victoria.
  • Griffin Arnatt and Ryan Gallagher lead the league in three-point shooting percentage, both sitting at 50.0% on the season.
