Men's basketball completes weekend sweep

Langley, BC – The University of Victoria men's basketball team took down Trinity Western University in a 72-63 win, January 17 at Langley Events Centre.
 
Trinity Western opened the game on a roll, but the Vikes fought back.
  • Victoria ended the first quarter down by four points, a situation they haven't found themselves in often under Head Coach Murphy Burnatowski.
  • The Spartans outscored the Vikes 23-19 after the first, but the Vikes returned to dominant form as the game played out.
  • The Vikes fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Spartans 22-14, capturing a four-point halftime lead.
 
Vikes held on for 13th win
  • The Vikes never looked back after capturing the lead in the second quarter.
  • The Spartans were held to 16 points in the third and 10 points in the fourth quarter as the Vikes cruised in the second half.
 
Notables
  • The Vikes continue their winning ways and improve to 13-2 on the season. The Spartans fall to 5-11.
  • Shadynn Smid and his 14-point double-double led the Vikes in scoring and on the glass.
  • Renoldo Robinson was finding his teammates effectively as he racked up seven assists.
 
The Vikes will return home to host the UNBC Timberwolves on January 22 at CARSA Performance Gym.
