Weekly Preview - October 21, 2026

Victoria, BC - A look ahead to all the Vikes action taking place this week.

Women's Rugby (5-0)

Canada West Championship
Semi-Final: Thursday, October 22 at 3 p.m.
Bronze Medal Game: Sunday, October 25 at 11 a.m.
Gold Medal Game: Sunday, October 25 at 1:30 p.m.

Vikes will host UBC, Alberta, and Lethbridge for the semifinals and medal games of the Canada West Championship at Wallace Field.

Championship Preview:
  • Victoria enters championship weekend as the top seed after completing a perfect 5-0 regular season, outscoring opponents at a remarkable rate throughout the campaign.
  • The Vikes have been one of the most explosive teams in the country, surpassing 60 points three times this season, including a 67-7 victory over Calgary and a 62-14 win over Alberta.
  • Hosting rights provide a significant advantage for Victoria, which has not lost at Wallace Field this season and will have the opportunity to play for a conference banner on home soil.

Alberta Matchup Preview:
  • Victoria opens the championship against the Alberta Pandas, a familiar postseason opponent and a team the Vikes have dominated for nearly a decade.
  • The Vikes hold a commanding 41-4 record against Alberta and enter Thursday's semifinal riding a 37-game winning streak in the series.
  • Victoria has won each of the last 10 meetings, often in convincing fashion, including a 62-14 victory in Edmonton earlier this season.
  • The Vikes have scored at least 49 points in five of their last six 15s matches against Alberta and defeated the Pandas 67-0 in last year's Canada West semifinal.
  • With a place in Sunday's gold-medal match at stake, the Vikes will look to continue their dominance and take another step toward a Canada West championship on home ground.

Women's Field Hockey (4-1-1)
Saturday, October 24 at 11 a.m. & Sunday, October 25 at 11 a.m.
Vikes will conclude their regular season with a weekend series in Vancouver against the UBC Thunderbirds.

Last Game Recap:
  • The Vikes celebrated Seniors Day in style, defeating the Calgary Dinos 3-0 in their final home game of the regular season.
  • Julia Boraston opened the scoring in the second quarter with an impressive individual effort, giving Victoria a lead it would never relinquish.
  • The Vikes doubled their advantage late in the third quarter when Carmen Adrian found Sadie Lee in the slot for the finish.
  • Senior Maeve Connorton added an insurance marker early in the fourth quarter, capping a memorable Seniors Day performance.
  • Anais Chace and Talia Pike combined for the shutout as Victoria secured its second victory of the season and improved to 2-1-1.
  • The win gave the Vikes momentum entering a season-defining weekend against the Thunderbirds.

UBC Matchup Preview:
  • The Vikes head to Vancouver for the biggest series of their season, with both the Canada West championship and a U SPORTS Championship berth on the line.
  • Entering the final weekend, the UBC Thunderbirds sit atop the standings at 5-0-1, while Victoria is close behind at 4-1-1.
  • The teams met earlier this season in Victoria, where UBC earned a 3-1 victory before the sides played to a 1-1 draw. The Thunderbirds claimed the shootout bonus point in the draw and therefore took five of a possible six points from the opening series.
  • Because of that result, the Vikes must at minimum mirror UBC's earlier performance this weekend. A regulation win and a shootout win would allow Victoria to draw level in the season series, while two regulation victories would secure the Canada West title outright.
  • Any result short of that leaves the Thunderbirds in position to claim the conference championship and the league's berth at the U SPORTS tournament.
  • Recent history suggests another tightly contested series. Five of the last 10 meetings between the programs have ended in ties, and several have required shootouts to determine bonus points.

Men's Rugby (3-2)
Saturday, October 24 at 2:30 p.m.
Vikes will host the UBC Thunderbirds at Wallace Field for the final game of the Coastal Cup.

Last Game Recap:
  • The Vikes kept their Coastal Cup hopes alive with a dominant 54-10 victory over the Trinity Western Spartans at Wallace Field.
  • Victoria seized control from the opening whistle, building a 26-0 advantage behind early tries from Jack Marshall, Keegan Neary, and two majors from Reece Thompson.
  • The Vikes carried a commanding 40-5 lead into halftime after additional tries from Alex Gordon and Robert Reid.
  • Victoria's attack continued to roll in the second half as Marshall added his second try of the match and Seb Isherwood helped push the Vikes beyond the 50-point mark.
  • Jack Driscoll contributed 14 points, converting seven of eight tries, while the Vikes surpassed the 50-point mark for the second time this season.
  • The victory improved Victoria to 3-2 and completed a season sweep of the Spartans.

UBC Matchup Preview:
  • The Vikes close out the regular season and the Coastal Cup schedule when they host the UBC Thunderbirds in one of the most important matches of their season.
  • National championship implications are on the line. After falling 36-26 to UBC in the first leg of the Wightman Boot earlier this year, Victoria must defeat the Thunderbirds by 10 points or more to secure a berth in the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship.
  • The Thunderbirds hold a 29-4 advantage in the all-time series, but the Vikes have shown they can compete with their longtime rivals, earning wins in 2022, 2023, and spring 2026.
  • The Vikes will benefit from home support at Wallace Field as they attempt to overturn the aggregate deficit and keep their national championship hopes alive.
  • Trinity Western, the team Victoria defeated last weekend, will host this year's Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship, adding another layer of significance to Saturday's showdown.

Women's Soccer (3-3-6)
Friday, October 23 at 5:30 p.m. & Sunday, October 25 at 1 p.m.
Vikes will head to Prince George and Abbotsford to battle UNBC (0-12) and Fraser Valley (3-6-3) as their regular season ends.

Last Game Recap:
  • The Vikes picked up four points on home turf last weekend, defeating UBC Okanagan 1-0 before earning a scoreless draw against Fraser Valley.
  • Victoria's defence continued its strong form, recording shutouts in both matches and extending its season total to four clean sheets.
  • The Vikes controlled much of the action against Fraser Valley, outshooting the Cascades 10-6 and limiting them to just one shot on goal.
  • Victoria has earned points in four of its last six matches and enters the final weekend of the regular season with its playoff hopes still alive.

UNBC Matchup Preview:
  • Victoria heads to Prince George looking to complete another successful season series against the Timberwolves.
  • The Vikes have never lost to UNBC, posting a 15-0-2 record and winning eight of the last 10 meetings.
  • Victoria earned a 4-1 victory in the most recent matchup between the programs and has scored four goals in three of the last five meetings.
  • With playoff positioning still to be determined, the Vikes will be looking to secure three valuable points against a winless Timberwolves squad.

Fraser Valley Matchup Preview:
  • Sunday's meeting could have major playoff implications as the Vikes close the regular season against the Cascades.
  • Recent meetings between the two programs have been tightly contested, including a scoreless draw earlier this month.
  • Victoria's defence enters the weekend in excellent form after posting back-to-back shutouts against UBCO and Fraser Valley.

Men's Soccer (7-4-2)
Friday, October 23 at 8 p.m. & Sunday, October 25 at 3:15 p.m.
Vikes will head on the road to wrap up their regular season with games against UNBC (2-6-6) and Fraser Valley (7-3-4).

Last Game Recap:
  • The Vikes picked up four points last weekend with a road sweep of northern competition, defeating UNBC and UBC Okanagan to strengthen their playoff position.
  • Victoria extended its unbeaten run and continued its strong late-season form after earning points against Fraser Valley and pushing conference-leading UBC earlier this month.

UNBC Matchup Preview:
  • The Vikes have enjoyed considerable success against UNBC, holding a 16-6-4 record and a 5-2-3 mark over the last 10 meetings.
  • Victoria is unbeaten in its last four matches against the Timberwolves and earned a 3-1 win and a 1-1 draw in last season's series.
  • The Vikes have consistently generated offence in the series, including a 4-0 victory in Prince George during the 2024 season.

Fraser Valley Matchup Preview:
  • Sunday's matchup against the Cascades could have significant playoff-seeding implications as both teams remain in contention near the top half of the Pacific Division.
  • Victoria and Fraser Valley played to a 1-1 draw earlier this month, with Rees Goertzen scoring the Vikes' equalizer.
