Eugene, OR – The University of Victoria cross country teams continued to prove they belong among North America's top programs, as both the men's and women's squads delivered impressive performances at the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Oct. 9. The women's team finished second while the men's grabbed a sixth-place finish.
Vikes compete near the top of the leaderboard against Division I competition.
- Leading the way for Victoria was last year's U SPORTS National Champion Madelyn Eybergen, who produced one of the top performances of the meet. Eybergen finished third overall in the women's 6km race in 20:00.1, behind only a pair of Oregon runners, and claimed top non-Oregon honours.
- The runner-up women's team finish was powered by a strong pack from the defending national champions. Marisha Thompson recorded a 20:53.2 to place 10th overall, while Brooke Lawlor (23rd, 21:20.1), Emily Robertson (28th, 21:29.1), and Rory O'Brien (34th, 21:34.2) rounded out the Vikes scoring five. Christobel Chapman-Piche finished 51st, and Hailie Robertson was 53rd as Victoria totalled 95 points, finishing ahead of several NCAA programs including Chico State, UC Irvine, California, Weber State, Idaho and Southern Utah.
- On the men's side, Jaxon Kuchar paced the Vikes with a personal-best effort of 24:30.8, good for 21st overall in the 8km race. Kuchar led a tightly packed Victoria squad that placed sixth overall with 172 points.
- Tyler Browne followed closely in 24th place with a time of 24:35.7, while Daniel Damian finished 39th in 25:01.8. Jacob Webster posted a personal best of 25:18.6 to place 53rd, and Jack Screen added a personal best of 25:29.8 for 60th to complete the Vikes scoring group. Joe Accardo (69th), Nolan Galloway (75th), and Mitchell Erickson (77th) also contributed for Victoria.
The Vikes will have different competitors competing in the UBC Open tomorrow, Oct. 10.
