Vikes go perfect at UBC to take tournament win and Canada West silver

Vancouver, BC – The University of Victoria defeated the University of British Columbia 26-5 to complete the 5-0 tournament sweep. This was the last leg of the Canada West 7s Series as the Vikes finished in second and claimed the Canada West silver medal, posting a 13-2 record over the three tournaments.

Victoria put on a show in a 35-0 win over Calgary in the tournament opener.
  • Kyla Warren led the way in the Vikes' first game of the tournament, scoring two tries and kicking off the scoring onslaught. Vanessa Chiappetta added a try of her own as well as three conversions in the first half. Ella O'Regan and Marin O'Regan rounded out the scoring for Victoria in the big win.

Vikes dominated Alberta for a 31-7 win.
  • Victoria came to play as they went on a 31-0 scoring run against the Alberta Pandas, which built an insurmountable lead. Alberta scored late in the second half, but the game was all but over.
  • Maggie Mackinnon, Shaye Ogurek, and Emilie Brett Frank each delivered a try while Cypres Des Ormeaux added a pair in the stellar offensive performance.

Victoria made it three wins on day one, taking down TWU 22-0.
  • Olivia Newsome opened the scoring as she scored all of the first half points, with Victoria headed to the break with a 10-0 lead.
  • Ivy Poetker and Kayla Warren both found the try zone in the second half, securing the 22-0 win.

Lethbridge struck first, but Victoria responded with four straight tries for a 24-5 win.
  • Lethbridge drew first blood in the Vikes' first game of tournament day two, but their resolve was on full display as four straight tries from four different scorers propelled the Vikes to their fourth win.

For the first time all season, the Vikes best the Thunderbirds in a 26-5 clash.
  • Olivia Newsome had the Vikes off and running as she scored the first 11 points of the match. Newsome's two tries and conversion had Victoria leading UBC for the first time in the 2026 7s season.
  • UBC responded to narrow the deficit heading into the halftime break, but Elle Douglas and Maggie Mackinnon both found the tryzone in the second half to secure the victory and capture the tournament's top seed.

This concludes the Canada West 7s series as the Vikes will return in the fall for the much-anticipated 15s season.
