Trent Stellingwerff enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Vikes in 2021-22, after previously collaborating with the team and other Vikes Athletics programs through his role as Senior Advisor, Innovation and Research at the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. He is also the Sport Science, Sports Medicine & Innovation Lead for Athletics Canada – the governing body of track and field.

Stellingwerff specialises in middle-to-long distance, coaching at the University of Guelph as well as internationally in the Netherlands, Switzerland, and at the national level for Canada, most recently coaching Canadian 800m record holder Melissa Bishop-Nriagu back to 1:58 in the women’s 800m post-baby and to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

As a physiologist and performance consultant, Stellingwerff has been involved with many athletes and coaches over the years, from 800m to the marathon. He has attended and/or serviced athletes and sports over four Olympic/Paralympic Games, four Commonwealth Games and over 15 World Championships across several sports.

Stellingwerff holds a Ph.D. from the University of Guelph in human health & nutritional sciences, and is a NCCP Level 3-certified performance coach.
