Derrick attended Strathcona Composite High School where he ran middle distance and was awarded Track & Field Athlete of the Year as captain of the ASAA Provincial Championship team ... he ran with the Edmonton Harriers and finished 3rd in the 800m at Alberta Provincial Championships ... he is majoring in Biomedical Engineering.
