FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Third-year Vike Brooke Bazian scored the game winning try for the Victoria Vikes with two minutes left in the winner-take all tournament finale against the UBC Thunderbirds on Sunday Mar. 2 in Vancouver. Bazian led the Vikes in scoring on Day 2 of the tournament tallying a total of four trys and two conversions. After a nail bitter win over Lethbridge to start the day, Bazian scored three tries against Alberta and led the Vikes to a decisive 36-7 victory to set up a showdown for the conference title in the final game against the Thunderbirds. With the Vikes and T-birds tied at 5-5 with the clock winding down, the social sciences major made a dash down the sideline to score the go ahead try for Victoria. From a tough angle, Bazian also slotted the conversion to put the Vikes up 12-5, which turned out to be the final score. Born and raised in Kamloops, B.C., Bazian was a mainstay in the Vikes backline all weekend long and played a huge role in Victoria’s defence of the conference banner throughout the entire Canada West 7s series. Bazian finished fifth overall in points scored in the conference, scoring six tries and kicking 20 conversions in the three tournaments.
