CALGARY - #Kaitlyn Williams# and the UVic Vikes women's field hockey team's top-ranked defence picked up another shutout, blanking the Calgary Dinos 1-0.
Williams was perfect again for the Vikes, turning aside all shots to record her sixth clean sheet of the season. The Vikes have allowed just four goals this season, the lowest total in the Canada West.
The lone Vikes goal came late in the opening half after a short corner chance was awarded to Victoria. The Vikes took this chance to rip a shot into the pads of Dino goaltender Stephanie Petrowitsch forcing a rebound. #Katie Tittler# made no mistake on the opportunity and buried the ball in the back of the Calgary goal.
The win extended the Vikes unbeaten streak to five games, improving their record to 4-2-3 in league play. Meanwhile, the loss leaves the Dinos in a close competition with the University of Alberta who currently hold the third and final berth in the CIS championship.
The second game in this double header opens at Hawkings Field Saturday at 1 p.m.
