Victoria - Canada West's trio of field hockey programs can now circle their calendars as the conference's 2026 schedule has been unveiled.
When action begins on Sept. 12, Calgary and UBC will once again be looking to dethrone the Victoria Vikes, who enter the season as seven-time defending conference champions. The Vikes begin their season on the road before playing two back-to-back weekends at home Sept. 26-27 against UBC and Oct. 3-4 against Calgary.
The Vikes claimed the Donna Hunt Memorial Trophy for a record 26th time in 2025. The conference title race came down to the final game of the regular season, with UBC needing a victory to capture its first championship since 2017. The Thunderbirds held a two-goal lead and seemed poised for victory before Victoria rallied with a pair of second-half goals to secure a crucial draw that allowed them to retain the conference crown.
Each team will play eight regular-season games and face each opponent four times, twice at home and twice on the road. The season opens with back-to-back weekends on the road for the Vikes, while the regular season concludes with a potentially pivotal series between UBC and Victoria on Oct. 24 and 25 in Vancouver.
With no postseason tournament in field hockey, every regular-season game carries significant importance. The regular-season champion will be awarded the Donna Hunt Memorial Trophy and earn Canada West's berth at the Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS National Championship.
