Charlottetown, PEI – The University of Victoria women's field hockey team displayed their dominance as the Vikes carved up the University of Prince Edward Island 4-0, Nov. 1, in the final game of the U SPORTS Championship round robin.
The Vikes wasted no time jumping out to an early lead.
- Just over halfway through the first quarter, the Vikes were awarded a penalty corner. The ball was passed out to Libby Hogg, who slid it over to Julia Boraston. Boraston was able to get her shot on net despite the cluster of defenders. Her shot forced a rebound, which bounced right to Molly Harris, who was there to capitalize. Harris' goal pushed the Vikes out to a quick 1-0 lead.
- In the second minute of the second quarter, the Vikes earned another penalty corner. This time, Libby Hogg did it herself as she blasted a shot over the goalie's shoulder for a highlight reel goal. This increased the Vikes' lead to 2-0, the lead they'd take to the locker room for halftime.
Victoria remained relentless on the attack in the second half.
- The Vikes continued to test the defence of UPEI in the second half. In the 4th minute of the fourth quarter, Brooke Taylor directed a shot towards the net, receiving a deflection from Macy Hogg. This attempt was saved, but the rebound kicked out to Ava Winter, who buried the Vikes' third of the game.
- A near replica of Hogg's first goal, Libby once again received a pass off a penalty corner. She sent a rocket on net, and the goalie stood no chance. Libby Hogg's second goal of the game sealed the 4-0 victory for Victoria.
