Boraston leads Vikes to first win at U SPORTS Championship

Charlottetown, P.E.I. – The University of Victoria women's field hockey defeated Dalhousie University, 3-0, in their second game of the U SPORTS Championship on Oct. 31, hosted by the University of P.E.I.

Quiet first quarter, but the Vikes began to pour on the offensive pressure.
  • As the first quarter wound down, the Vikes began to tilt the field and seized all the offensive momentum.
  • With three minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Vikes were awarded a penalty corner. Off the corner, the Vikes blasted a shot on net, and the rebound bounced out to Josie Dunham, who buried the Vikes' first of the game and first of the U SPORTS Championship.

Vikes dominated the second half as their championship pedigree began to shine through.
  • Jaden Dawson got the second half started with a bang as she buried her first of the game and extended the Vikes' lead to 2-0. Julia Boraston fed the ball to the front of Dalhousie's net, causing a scrum. Dawson was able to find the loose ball and put it in the back of the net.
  • Late in the fourth quarter, Sadie Lee was fed a pass from Julia Boraston inside the circle. Lee directed the ball towards the net, and Katie Bentley was there to finish off the scoring attempt. Bentley's first goal of the postseason put the finishing touches on a Vikes' 3-0 victory.
  • Anais Chace shut down Dalhousie's offence and secured her second straight shutout at the U SPORTS Championship.

Notables
  • Julia Boraston was awarded the Nike Player of the Game for her key efforts in setting up two of the Vikes' goals.
  • With the win, the Vikes now move to 1-0-1 in the U SPORTS round robin play and with a win tomorrow, will advance to the finals.

The Vikes will play in their third and final game of the round-robin portion of the U SPORTS Championship, facing the host, UPEI, on November 1 at 8:00 a.m. PT.
