Vikes stamp out 2-0 win at McMahon Stadium

CALGARY – Heavy snow relocated the UVic Vikes women's soccer team to McMahon Stadium, home of the Calgary Stampeders where the visitors posted a 2-0 win against the Calgary Dinos on Saturday afternoon.

Vikes' striker #Lindsay Hoetzel# scored the game-winning goal just nine minutes into the contest on the first Vikes shot of the game. #Kendra Flock# added an insurance marker in the 25th minute to pad her conference-leading tally of goals, which now stands at 12.

The two early strikes by the Vikes put the Dinos in a significant hole to start the match, from which they would never recover.

Letting in two goals on the first three shots, Dinos netminder Kristen Barton did settle down after some early struggles, making six additional saves in the loss. Vikes 'keeper #Stephanie Parker# posted her league-leading seventh shutout.

With the weekend sweep of their southern Alberta foes and a playoff berth already clinched, Victoria (8-1-3) will set their sights on their outside chance for first place in Canada West, where Trinity Western currently leads by six points at the top.

The Vikes host the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday, Oct 31 before hosting the conference leaders Spartans on Nov 1. Both matches are scheduled for 12pm kickoffs at Centennial Stadium.
