Dinos dealt the pink slip

VICTORIA - With the UVic Vikes clad in pink jerseys to raise awareness for breast cancer, the defending conference champs dealt the Calgary Dinos a 4-1 victory. It was a full team effort as the Vikes netted four goals and held the Dinos to just six shots.

#Kendra Flock#'s screamer from outside the box put the Vikes on the board as the first half came to a close.

The Vikes struck again early in the second half as #Frankee Bencher# headed in #Tessa Margetts#' cross in the 49th minute. Margetts followed up the effort with her first career goal 30 minutes later.

Substitute #Kelsey Blake# potted the Vikes fourth of the afternoon with less than six minutes to play.

Calgary spoiled the shutout in the 90th minute as Lindsay Burrowes capitalized on a free kick opportunity deep in the Vikes half.

The reigning conference champs have netted an impressive seven goals in their first two matches of the regular season.

"Any time you can score that many goals it's a positive thing," Vikes head Coach #Tracy David# said of her team's offensive abilities. "It was important that we won our home opener and the win gives us a lot of confidence heading into tomorrow."

The Vikes will look to close out the weekend series against the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Sunday, September 20 at 12:00pm.
