EDMONTON - An own goal from the Alberta Golden Bears helped the UVic Vikes to stay undefeated this season after playing to a 1-1 draw at Foote Field.
Alberta's own goal in the 17th minute was the result of #Jordie Oberg#'s shot deflected by Bears' defender Harman Braich. The deflection was headed towards Alberta's net before Braich's second clearance attempt soared towards the top corner and gave the Vikes an early 1-0 lead.
The Golden Bears managed to salvage a tie after their miscue, as uncovered Milan Timotijevic headed in an equalizer in the 28th minute.
The tie puts Victoria alone in first place in the Canada West conference with a 3-0-1 record while Alberta sits tied for second with Trinity Western, each with undefeated records of 2-0-2. Shots were 11-8 in favour of the Vikes.
The Vikes return home for a provincial battle next weekend, as they host the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday, September 26 and the Trinity Western Spartans on Sunday, September 27th. Both games are scheduled for 2:15pm kickoffs at Centennial Stadium.
