Sawicki highlights Vikes recruiting class

VICTORIA - Jaclyn Sawicki, a key contributor to B.C.'s gold medal victory at the 2009 Canada Games, highlights a seven-member recruiting class for the UVic Vikes women's soccer team.

Vikes head coach #Tracy David# announced the signing of seven recruits, who will join UVic for the 2010 campaign, including Jaclyn Sawicki of Coquitlam, Kendra Williams of North Vancouver, Maryse Reichgeld of North Vancouver, Mallory Hackett of Victoria, Lindsey Butler of Duncan, Aja Battie of North Vancouver and Carlita Branion-Calles of Richmond.

"We're fortunate to have landed some of the best from a very deep class of talent this year," said David. "I'm looking forward to them joining our squad and for them to make a difference."

Sawicki, Williams and Reichgeld all come to UVic via the Whitecaps program, and the trio have also been members of the BC Provincial teams.

"UVic has a great team and I thought I'd fit in well," said Sawicki. "I like to play fast paced, dribble the ball and be creative, and I think that will play into their style."

Battie hails from the North Shore and suited up for the Whitecaps affiliated Mountain WFC team. Hackett and Butler both call Vancouver Island home and play in the Victoria Premier league.

Branion-Calles has a family connection at UVic. Her older brother, Reece, and two cousins, Wesley and Gavin Barrett, are members of the Vikes men's team.
