VICTORIA – The UVic Vikes women's field hockey team suffered their first loss at home this season, falling 1-0 to the Calgary Dinos.
The game's only goal came in the 38th minute, when Dinos rookie Claire Beaton pounced on a blocked shot in the Vikes crease for her first of the season.
The Vikes had numerous scoring opportunities including four consecutive penalty corners in the first half, but were unable to capitalize on the possession.
Dinos 'keeper Sephanie Petrowitsh kept the Vikes scoreless for the second time this season, posting a league-high fourth shutout.
The loss drops the Vikes to 5-2-2 and sets up a crucial rematch with the Dinos (4-3-2) on Sunday. The Vikes' final home game of the 2010 season is scheduled for 11am at the UVic turf field.
