Cascades conquered; Vikes even series

ABBOTSFORD - Scoring 20 points and dishing out seven assists, Ryan MacKinnon led the UVic Vikes men's basketball team to a bounce-back 83-80 win over the Fraser Valley Cascades.

BOXSCORE

MacKinnon, who also managed seven 'boards, scored six points in the final frame and delivered the virtual dagger on the free-throw line to give the Vikes a safe 11-point lead.

Pierce Anderson also delivered in a big way, coming off the bench to net a season-high 14 points and grab five rebounds.

Mike Berg added 12 points and Marco Dolcetti contributed 11. Dolcetti' scoring output was largely contained within a two-minute span at the beginning of the third quarter, when the senior from Vernon knocked down three treys to help erase Fraser Valley's halftime lead.

The Cascades led 37-33 at the break after hitting five three-pointers in the first quarter alone. Fraser Valley finished with 14 three-pointers, including five from guard Sam Freeman, who led the Cascades with 19 points. Ryan Fahandeg came off the bench to net 16.

The win pulls the Vikes even in Canada West conference play with a record of 4-4. They return home next weekend, November 19-20, to host the Regina Cougars.
