Jaclyn Sawicki# netted an 87th minute equalizer to see the UVic Vikes women's soccer team tie the Manitoba Bisons 1-1 in their season opener on Saturday morning.

Battling heavy winds that reeked havoc on both team's offences, Manitoba fourth year Meagan Smith broke the deadlock midway through the first half pouncing on a loose-ball for the early lead. The Bisons outshot their visitors 6-1 in the opening half before the Vikes' offence gathered momentum to outshoot Manitoba 6-4 in the second frame.

Stephanie Parker made five saves to keep the Bisons scoreless in the second half.
With the final whistle approaching, Sawicki's' attempt at goal struck the crossbar before going into the net to draw the match level.
The Vikes will round out their road swing in Regina when they take on the Cougars on Sunday morning at 11am.
