VICTORIA – The UVic Vikes women's field hockey team opened their 2010 campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Alberta Pandas on Saturday morning.
Vikes midfielder
Kyla Kirby opened the scoring in the 18th minute with
Perri Espeseth hammering in the second just seven minutes later off a penalty corner.
The second half saw more of the same with
Whitney Siegmann notching the Vikes third goal in the 37th minute.
Courtney Low scored the Vikes fourth with 13 minutes left to play.
Despite the Pandas best efforts they were unable to solve the Vikes goaltender
Kaitlyn Williams, who has not allowed a goal in five straight games dating back to the Vikes preseason sweep of NCAA competition.
The Vikes and Pandas will play the second game of this weekend's doubleheader Sunday, September 19th at 11am at the UVic turf field. -30-
