VICTORIA – The last two teams to hoist the McCrae Cup as CIS Champions, the UVic Vikes women's field hockey team and UBC Thunderbirds, meet up for a rivalry series this weekend with undefeated records in tow.
GAME INFORMATION
Sat. Sept 25 vs. UBC (UVic Turf Field) – 11am
Sun. Sept 26 vs. UBC (UVic Turf Field) – 11am
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The two most decorated programs in the CIS will clash at the UVic Turf Field when the Vikes and T-Birds go head-to-head. Only the Thunderbirds boast more national championships than the Vikes 11 McCrae Cups with UBC capturing their 12th in a 6-1 rout of Alberta in the 2009 championship game.
SCOUTING THE VIKES
The Vikes cruised past Alberta in week one, scoring six goals against the 2009 CIS silver medalists. Goals came from six different Vikes as their defence buckled only once after 140 minutes of play.
SCOUTING THE THUNDERBIRDS
After winning a record 12th McCrae Cup last season, the Thunderbirds opened their title defence with two convincing wins over the Calgary Dinos. Midfielder Vickie Pearson led the scoring charts with UBC outscoring Calgary 5-1 to go 2-0 on the season.
