VICTORIA – The UVic Vikes women's field hockey team remains the only undefeated team in the Canada West after toppling the defending champion UBC T-Birds 3-2.

Vikes third year, #Dani Hennig#, opened the second half by hammering in the 3rd goal of the game to give the home team a 3-0 lead.

Kaitlyn Williams# in the 57th minute as Team Canada member Miranda Mann scored off a penalty corner. T-Birds striker Vickie Pearson also found the back of the net off a penalty corner in the 65th minute.
“We capitalized on our opportunities,” said Vikes Coach Beecroft following the victory. “We were happy to have beat UBC for the first time in years.”
Sunday's match-up was the first time UVic beat UBC dating back to November 2008.
The Vikes (3-0-1) who sit atop the Canada West standings travel to Calgary for next weekend's doubleheader against the Dinos. Calgary currently sits in 3rd spot with a 2-2 record. Both games, October 2nd and 3rd, will begin at 1pm.
