The new-look University of Victoria Vikes men's basketball team opened up the House Laughton men's basketball tournament with a convincing 77-56 victory over the Guelph Gryphons at the Ravens Nest at Carleton University in Ottawa Friday night.

The Vikes shot 53 per cent from the floor and were unstoppable in the second half, going on a 24-11 run in the third quarter to outpace the Gryphons. The held Guelph to just 27.8% per cent shooting in the second half, 30% for the game.
UVic (1-0) now prepares for what will arguably be their biggest test of the year, facing defending CIS champion and tournament host Carleton (9-4) on their home court on Saturday night at 5 p.m. PDT
(LIVE STREAMING). The Ravens have already played nine NCAA teams this pre-season posting a 5-4 record and are undefeated against Canadian opponents at 4-0, including Friday night's 103-61 win over the Bishop's Gaiters.
The Vikes will face Bishop's on Sunday at 9 a.m. PDT in their final tournament game.
