The University of Victoria Vikes trailed early by five points but stormed back to lead midway through the opening quarter, and defeated the Trinity Western Spartans 86-75 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
#
Ryan MacKinnon# of Comox, B.C., led the Vikes again with 17 points along with four rebounds, a steal and an assist.
"I'm happy with the start, but to be honest I did not really like the finish of the game," said
Craig Beaucamp. "We were up 20 and we spotted them the first eight points of the third quarter. You can't do that and expect to win on this road. It made it interesting."
#
Michael Acheampong# of Toronto and #
Terrell Evans# of Las Vegas, Nev., added 15 points each, and #
Pierce Anderson# of Victoria and #
Zac Andrus# of Vachon Island, Wa., had 13 and 12 points respectively. Andrus also have eight rebounds and six assists along with two steals.
"Obviously different guys are contributing, that's key for us, it's tough in this league for one guy to do that, teams will adapt," Beaucamp said. "The key guy for us was Pierce, he ended up with 13 points and five rebounds, did a lot of good things, played well defensively. Terrell also came off the bench with 13. #
Reese Pribilsky# also played some key minutes for us."
"The second guy if guys don't step up off the bench, it's tough, we get worn down."
Kyle Coston led Trinity Western with 27 points and nine rebounds in the loss and added two steals and three assists, but committed five turnovers.
