The Vikes field hockey team rounded up their pre-season tour on the east coast with a 2-0 win over the Brown Bears. Kelowna natives #Whitney Siegmann# and #Marisa Davidson# each pocketed one goal to push the Vikes to a 2-1 pre-season record.

The UVic squad dominated the play with several scoring opportunities in the first half. Veteran forward Siegmann buried a reverse stick shot following a hard cross by #Courtney Low# to give the Vikes the lead. Up 1-0, the team remained composed on defense and continued to go forward with the ball.

Pouring on the pressure, the Vikes were able to pin Brown in their own end for a majority of the first half. As half time approached, rookie scoring sensation Davidson finished off a lose ball in front of the Brown goal keeper to give the Vikes a 2-0 lead. Davidson has scored in each of the pre-season games so far, with the goal against brown bringing her tally to four.  

The UVic side consistently showed a strong presence on the field, competing hard for 50/50 balls and really capitalizing on the Bears' turnovers. The UVic defence did their job to minimize short corners and allow #Leah Farnan# to record her first shut out of the season.

The Vikes will head home on Thursday to continue preparation for their first Canada West season game in against the Calgary Dinos on Sept. 17.
