CALGARY - The Vikes women's field hockey squad were downed by the Dinos for the second day in a row by a score of 3-1. Rookie #
Marisa Davidson# snuck one in to avoid the shut-out but the Vikes will return home with two road loses.
Momentum for the 2011 CIS National Champioship hosts seemed to be in their favour, as the Dinos were on the board early in the first minute of play.
Courtney Campbell, a 2010 CIS All-Canadian, pocketed her first of the match beating UVic keeper #
Leah Farnan#.
Calgary's only other All-Canadian last year,
Carolina Romeo, got the game winning goal in the 18th minute. The next 6 minutes would house the final two goals of the game with the next one going to Victoria.
A long ball was sent in deep into the Calgary end and was left un-touched by the Dinos defenders, intending it to go off the endline. Much to their surprise, Davidson was able to pounce on the loose ball and deflect just through Stephanie Petrowitsch's legs.
Calgary would go on to score a third goal thanks to a great effort by Campbell. The Dinos close out their home opening weekend with a sweep of the Vikes but will look on to facing West coast powerhouses UBC next weekend.
In the mean time, the young Vikes squad will return home to re-group for their home openers on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25 against the Alberta Pandas.
