VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes women's basketball team extended their win streak to five with a 71-67 win over the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack on Jan. 25. The No. 8 Vikes improve to an 11-4 record, while the WolfPack drop to 11-5.

The Vikes were led again in scoring by senior
Debbie Yeboah (Winnipeg, MB), who earned 20 points and eight rebounds. Guard
Cassandra Goodis (Penticton, BC) tallied 16 points, while
Jessica Renfrew (Victoria, BC) chipped in with 12 points. The Vikes women shot 39 per cent on three-point field goals.
The WolfPack relied heavily on their five starters, who each hit double digits and collectively played all but 18 of the 200 total minutes of the game.
Taiysa Worsfeld totaled 16 points, while
Tracys Kocs added 15 points and veteran
Diane Schuetze had 14 points and nine rebounds.
In the opening quarter, both teams played neck-in-neck as the score was tied up three times, with the Wolfpack edging the visitors 19-18 at the first break. Second-year
Jenny Lewis (Fall River, NS) hit a key three-point shot to tie the game up after Thompson Rivers took an early lead. Renfrew also hit a late three to keep the Vikes trailing by only one point.
In the second, the Vikes got comfortable in the paint as
Jenna Bugiardini (Hamilton, ON)kicked off a 7-0 run, while a late bucket by
Chelsea McMullen (Prince George, B.C.) gave the Vikes the 18-11 tilt to enter the break leading 36-30.
Second-year Vike
Shaylyn Crisp (Victoria, B.C.) came off the bench to give Victoria two third-quarter shots from beyond the arc to keep the Vikes in the lead the entire quarter.
The race stayed tight entering the fourth and the WolfPack did well to close a seven-point gap.
Jorri Duxbury, of Thompson Rivers, scored a layup and two free throws to close the gap to three but a Goodis bucket from the line sealed the game 71-67 and lifted the Vikes to their fifth consecutive win.
