Victoria (7-3) possessed a nine-point halftime lead, but the Spartans (1-9) third quarter put the game back in the balance. However, after the Vikes took a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, 61-51, they never let the Spartans closer than four points the rest of the way.

The Vikes shot 44.6 per cent from the field and was 5 for 15 from 3-point range while TWU shot 36.6 per cent from the field and was 2 for 14 from beyond the arc. Despite the loss, the Spartans did well in the turnover battle, with just 13 turnovers to Victoria's 20.

The Vikes were led by the three-pronged attack of Cassandra Goodis, Jessica Renfrew and Jenna Bugiardini, who each hit double-digits in points. Goodis led the team with 15 points while also collecting a game-high 11 rebounds while Renfrew had 12 points and Bugiardini added 10 points. Sarah Semeniuk had eight boards, seven points and four steals.

The Vikes jumped out to a 14-9 lead early in the first quarter, but a pull-up jumper from Strom launched a TWU run that saw the Spartans eventually take a 21-17 lead. A late 3-pointer from Victoria's Allison Mulock got the Vikes to within one point, 21-20, at the end of the first quarter.

With the Vikes up 26-25 early in the second quarter, Victoria took off on an 11-0 run, including 3-pointers from Cassandra Goodis and Jenny Lewis to give the visitors a 37-25 lead. A late 3-pointer from TWU's Strom closed the gap to nine points, 37-28, at halftime.

The difference was largely the Vikes perimeter shooting as Victoria was 4 for 10 from beyond the arc while TWU was 1 for 8.

After getting outscored 17-7 in the second quarter, the Spartans responded as they outscored Victoria 17-7 in the third quarter.

The Spartans scored the first 11 points of the quarter and after a Gordon jumper the Spartans led 39-37. From there it was back and forth and after TWU took a 45-42 lead, a buzzer-beating jumper from Lewis made it a one-point game, 45-44, heading to the final frame.
