Box Score VICTORIA, B.C. - The University of Victoria Vikes men's basketball team were downed 80-55 to the Saskatchewan Huskies in the final of the Graham Shootout in Saskatoon, Sask. The final pre-season match was just that, as the Vikes shared playing time across their 11-man bench.
Patrick Pilato led all Vikes with 12 points, while fourth-year guard Reiner Theil had 11 points and five rebounds. Rookie Justin Kinnear hauled down seven boards, while, the Vikes shot 33 per cent from the field and 62 per cent from the line.
Saskatchewan had all five starters play over 30 minutes and had three players shoot double digits. Dadrian Collins logged 20 points, while Andrew Henry had 18 and Ben Baker had 13. The Huskies were incredible from beyond the arc as Henry drained six three-pointers and Collins had five. The Huskies were also 18-for-19 from the stripe.
The Vikes were out-scored 27-13 after the first quarter. Henry had a 15-point opening half for Saskatchewan, all from three-pointers. The Huskies out-rebounded the Vikes 23-16 in the first half to take a 41-25 commanding lead after two quarters.Â
In the third quarter the Vikes nailed two three pointers, one from each of Mack Roth and Jordan Charles, but the dent in the lead was hardly felt as Collins put up two treys of his own.Â
Victoria were out-scored in all four quarters including a 20-14 fourth frame. The Huskies earned their sixth-straight Graham Shootout title win the 80-55 win. The Vikes finished the tournament with a 2-1 record and overall move to a 4-3 pre-season record.
The Vikes will regroup for their Canada West season openers on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at McKinnon Gym. Regina will visit Victoria for the games at 8 p.m. on Friday and 7 p.m. on the Saturday. Games will be available live at uvic.canadawest.tv.
