Five Vikes honoured in Canada West women's soccer

Oct. 30: Canada West women's soccer All-Stars announced (Langley, B.C.)

VICTORIA, B.C. - The University of Victoria Vikes women's soccer team suffered a heart-breaking loss in their Canada West quarter-finals ousting them from the Canada West Final Four. Despite the shortened season, five Vikes were named to conference all-star teams including Jaclyn Sawicki, Emma Greig, Cassie Dennis, Mallory Hackett and Meaghan Storie.

This is the second all-star nod for Greig, who lead the Vikes this season with seven goals and seven assists. The fourth-year striker is easily the most potent attacker on the Vikes line up starting all 13 games of the Vikes' season and boasting a .62 shots on goal percentage.

Sawicki is also no stranger to the conference all-star list as a former CIS All-Canadian. The fifth-year midfielder totalled four goals and three assists and started every game this season. Sawicki's two-way play is pivotal to balancing the Vikes line up from front to back. Both Greig and Sawicki were named to the Canada West First Team All-star list as top offensive players.

Third-year transfer and goalkeeper Storie had an impressive first season with the Vikes starting all 12 regular season games and spoting three shutouts and a .865 save percentage. WIth Storie between the pipes the Vikes allowed no more than one goal per game in regular season play. Storie was named to the conference Second All-Star Team.

Fifth-year defenders Hackett and Dennis were also included on the Canada West Second All-Star team after their leadership in the Vikes' back line. Dennis scored two goals and had one assist, while Hackett logged one goal and one assist this year. The senior duo controlled the Vikes' defence and were pivotal in the helping the Vikes alowing only eight goals against, the lowest in the Pacific Divison.
