Vikes look for double wins against UNBC

Sept. 27 & 28 Vikes @ UNBC (12:00 p.m., Prince George)

Vikes hit the road for the second weekend in a row
VICTORIA— The University of Victoria Vikes men's soccer team has proved they're good on the road, earning wins against Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan last weekend. They bring this momentum that saw them topple TRU 4-0 and UBC Okanagan 2-1 to Prince George this weekend, where they face UNBC for a doubleheader weekend, Sept. 27 and 28 at 2:15 p.m.

The Vikes are currently 3-1-0 for the season.

Rookie Michael Baart has already collected four goals in four games, sending a ball each past the UBCO and TRU goalkeepers. Baart is currently the CIS 2nd Star of the Week.

Cameron Stokes also collected a pair of goals this past weekend, scoring twice against Thompson Rivers. Dominic Colantonio and Cam Hundal rounded out the scoring for the Vikes winning weekend.

"Baart continues to be exceptional," said head coach Bruce Wilson, adding "Our centre backs Alex Redpath and Rhyse Harnden have played virtually every minute of our four matches. They're incredibly solid on defence." Goalie Noah Pawlowski also continues to dominate his net, earning a shutout against Thompson Rivers last weekend.

The UNBC Timberwolves come off a disappointing weekend, losing twice to UFV, 3-1 and 2-1. A preseason Canada West ranking placed the Timberwolves 11th overall after a 2013-14 season record of 2-9-3.

UNBC Head coach Alan Alderson is a former Vikes player. "I know the Timberwolves have improved since last year and want to compete," said Wilson. "It's up to us to perform."

Both teams face back-to-back games. "Playing the same team twice in one weekend isn't ideal, but our roster is 100 per cent injury free and our substitutes are just as strong as the starting lineup," said Wilson.

The Vikes kickoff in Prince George against the Timberwolves on Sept. 27 at 12 p.m. and again on Sept. 28 at 12 p.m.
