Seniors lead Vikes women to Keg Cup victory in final home games

Mar. 21-22: Annual Keg Cup (Centennial Stadium)

VICTORIA, B.C. - The University of Victoria VIkes soccer team hosted their Annual Keg Cup this past weekend, Mar. 21-22, and it was their senior players' final games in their blue and golds. Graduating players Jaclyn Sawicki and Carlita Branion-Calles scored two goals in the Vikes womens' 3-2 victory over UBC to capture the Keg Cup title at Centennial Stadium. The Vikes men finished tied for third.

The annual event which features four men's and four women's teams, who all get treated to a steak dinner at the local Keg Restaurant, courtesy of long-time Vikes supporter John Tinker, saw the Vikes women and the Trinity Western men come out on top. The tournament structure is a two-game set up with a semifinal on Mar. 21 and finals on Mar. 22.

The Vikes women kicked off with a 1-0 victory over Alberta, while UBC knocked off the powerhouse Trinity Western women 2-0. Emma Greig was the lone goal scorer in the Vikes' semifinal win, while the 2014 CIS All-Canadian also tallied a goal in the final.

The Vikes men went to penalty kicks in their semifinal game against eventual winners, the Spartans. The teams were squared at one, while Trinity Western took the game 4-2 in penalty kicks. On Sunday the Vikes men tied 2-2 with Fraser Valley to share third spot. Sam Prette and Cam Hundal were the goal scorers for the Vikes.
