CALGARY—The Victoria Vikes captured yet another win against the University of Calgary Dinos in the second game of their weekend doubleheader on Sunday at Hawkings field.
 
Cilia van Nierop and Jocelynne Charlton scored the goals for UVic.
 
Defeating the Dinos 2-1, the Vikes now have a record of two wins and two ties through the first two weekends of Canada West play.
 
"We started well today, and hemmed Calgary into their own end for much of the first half," said Vikes head coach Lynne Beecroft. "Unfortunately, we couldn't convert on most of our chances."
 
In the 27th minute the first goal of the game was scored by Cilia van Nierop of the Vikes, on a penalty corner. Dinos goalkeeper, Ingrid Ulrich struggled to stop the ball from her quick hit into the net.
 
As the game progressed into the second half, the Dinos began to pick up the pace. In the 38^th minute, second-year Dino Danica Heath found an open opportunity and put in not only her first goal of the season but the first goal for the team as well.
  
Nearing towards the end of the game, with the contest tied at 1-1, Jocelynne Charlton of the Vikes was able to strike a shot into the net to record her first goal of the season.
 
Despite the victory, Beecroft saw things from her team that she knows will need to be worked on as the season progresses.
 
"The second half was more of the same. We will spend more time on penalty corner's over the next couple of weeks so that we can capitalize on our opportunities," said Beecroft.
 
The Vikes will have a bye week next weekend before they host the UBC Thunderbirds October 8 and 9.
