Tale of the Weekend
Â
VICTORIA – The fourth and final weekend of the 2017 season is ahead for a UVic Vikes women's field hockey team that has already secured a second place finish in the Canada West conference.
Â
Due to a restructuring around the U SPORTS National Championship format, the Vikes season will come to an end this weekend after they play a pair of home games against the Calgary Dinos.
Â
With no more championship tournament and instead the winner of Canada West and the winner of the OUA meeting in a best-of-three series, the Vikes fate was sealed two weekends ago when the team dropped two games in a row to the UBC T-Birds.
Â
The Vikes will play their final two games against Calgary on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22 with both matches beginning at 11 a.m.
Â
The game on Sunday will mark the final game in the Vikes career of goalie
Larissa Piva, who has been apart of four U SPORTS medal winning teams in her time at UVic.
Â
When these teams met earlier in the season in Calgary, the Vikes were able to pick up both wins by scores of 1-0.
Â
Last Time Out
Â
A tough weekend in Vancouver saw the Vikes drop two games to UBC by scores of 2-0 and 2-1 two weekends ago. First-year Vike
Anna Mollenhauer scored the first Canada West goal of her career in the loss.
Â
The Dinos were also bested by the T-Birds in their last two games, losing by scores of 3-1 and 6-0 in Vancouver
By the Numbers

Leina Dueck or
Anna Mollenhauer, both first-year players.
18: The Vikes come into the game having won the past 18 meetings between the two teams.
