PREVIEW: Vikes return home to take on the Bisons and Wesmen

Sep. 15-16: Victoria women's soccer vs. Manitoba Bisons (Victoria B.C.) & Winnipeg Wesmen (Victoria B.C.)

Tale of the Weekend

VICTORIA – A rare pair of games against teams from outside of BC are ahead for a UVic Vikes women's soccer team that has put together a solid start to their 2017 Canada West season.

Both the Manitoba Bisons, Sep. 15 at 5:00 p.m., and the Winnipeg Wesmen, Sep. 16 at 5:00 p.m., will make the long trip west to face the Vikes on their home turf at Centennial Stadium.

Last year the Vikes finished off their regular season with a trip to Manitoba where UVic was held scoreless in their two games played on the prairies. A 0-0 tie with the Wesmen on Oct. 22 was followed by a 2-0 loss to Manitoba on Oct. 23.

Last Time Out

The Vikes managed to pick up an important point on the road last weekend, playing the Fraser Valley Cascades to a 2-2 draw before falling to the then No. 3 ranked Trinity Western Spartans 2-1.

Both Manitoba and Winnipeg played their first regular season games of 2017 last weekend.

The Bisons started strong with a 0-0 tie with the Regina Cougars followed by a 3-2 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies placing them in a tie atop the standings in the Prairie Division.

Winnipeg played those very same Huskies and Cougars, dropping their season opener 3-2 to Saskatchewan before rebounding to tie Regina 1-1.
