PREVIEW: Winners of three straight, Vikes hit the Prairies looking for more

Sep. 23: Victoria men's soccer vs. Saskatchewan Huskies (Saskatoon,SK)

Tale of the Weekend

VICTORIA – Surging their way up the Pacific Division standings in recent weeks, the UVic Vikes men's soccer team will hope to keep things rolling this weekend when they make a rare trip out to the Prairies for a game against the Saskatchewan Huskies on Sep. 23.

It won't be easy for the Vikes when they play the Huskies at 1:15 p.m., as the team from the bread basket of Canada is 5-3-0 on the year and currently occupies second place in the Prairie Division.

The last time these two teams met was in 2014 when the Huskies picked up a 2-0 victory over UVic in the semifinals of the Canada West Final Four. Saskatchewan would go on to claim the conference title that year.

Last Time Out

The Vikes picked up a pair of victories last weekend, helping them vault all the way from last place in the Pacific Division up to fourth.

A 1-0 win over the MacEwan Griffins was followed by a 4-1 shellacking of the Mount Royal Cougars as the Vikes offence exploded for three goals in the second half.

The Huskies earned a weekend split from their time spent in B.C. last weekend. The team dropped their first game of the road trip 5-1 to the UBC Okanagan Heat before rebounding to pick up a 1-0 victory over the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley.
