Vikes drop Canada West opener in Winnipeg

Oct. 26: Victoria Vikes 84, Winnipeg Wesmen 93 (Winnipeg, Man.)

Box Score

WINNIPEG — The University of Victoria Vikes men's basketball team dropped their season opener 93-84 to the Winnipeg Wesmen to open their Canada West campaign on Oct. 26.

Adam Benrabah had his biggest game in a Wesmen uniform and it came against a team made up of players he recognized from his days growing up.

The Surrey, B.C. native had 23 points and the Winnipeg Wesmen men's basketball team pulled off a 93-84 win over the Victoria Vikes Friday at the Duckworth Centre in the Canada West season-opener for both teams.

Sean Tarver added 22 points and Joseph Medrano had 22, including a big three-pointer with 51 seconds to play that stretched the lead to seven.

The Wesmen led by as many as 14 in the first half, but a 13-2 Victoria run got the Vikes back in the game.

Jordan Charles had 19 points for the Vikes and Mason Loewen added 12.

"We just weren't good enough defensively all night to win a game, so that kinda summed it up," Vikes head coach Craig Beaucamp said. "You can't give up that many points, and just too many offensive rebounds."
