Box Score VICTORIA – A little rain didn't stop the University of Victoria Vikes from recording their seventh win of the season.

The Vikes eclipsed the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves 1-0 on Friday night.

The penultimate Canada West regular season game got moved from Centennial Stadium to the Artificial Turf Field #2 a few hours before kickoff due to a heavy downpour.

The Vikes carried much of the possession in the first half, but only recorded three shots on target. Their best chance came off a turnover forced by Nikki Virk. The first-year midfielder set up the graduating Kiara Kilbey from outside the 18-yard box. Kilbey launched it, but Brooke Molby pulled off the nice diving save in the 24th minute.

The young back line of the Vikes snuffed out the Timberwolves in the first half and didn't allow a single shot on net. The teams entered the break tied 0-0.

Mackenzie Ringrose was searching for her first goal of the season in the 54th minute, but her strike from the left side was turned away by Molby.

Ringrose got her first point of the season when she stole a pass from the Timberwolves fifth-year midfielder Julia Babicz, who was attempting to pass back to her keeper. Ringrose found Kilbey in front of the net for the tap in during the 72nd minute.

Fifth-year keeper Puck Louwes made three saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season. The Vikes improved to 7-3-3 to stay in the hunt for the No. 3 seed and the top seed in the play-in round.

With the loss, the Timberwolves fell to 3-6-4.

The Vikes wrap up their regular season tomorrow evening when the No. 1 seeded University of Calgary Dinos (10-0-2) visit Victoria. Game time is slated for 5 p.m. locally. The location of the game will be determined by the severity of the weather. Regardless of where the game will be played, it will be broadcast on www.canadawest.tv, presented by CO-OP.
