Langley, B.C. - Dominant from the start, the University of Victoria men's basketball team sailed to a 104-66 win over Trinity Western University, Oct. 29 at the Langley Event Centre.

1st Quarter – UVic 35, TWU 15
- It took the Vikes just three minutes to jump out to a 10-point lead, taking a 16-6 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the opening quarter.
- Foot on the gas, the Vikes cruised through the first quarter, finishing with a 35-15 lead.
- Diego Maffia hit double-digit scoring in the opening frame, notching 10 points to open the game.
2nd Quarter – UVic 57, TWU 44
- While the Vikes remained in control, the Spartans managed to make some stops and respond with scores of their own to begin to cut in to the Vikes' lead.
- What was a 20-point lead at the end of the first quarter was narrowed to 10, 51-41, with two minutes to play in the half.
- A jumper from Dominick Oliveri would put UVic back up by 13, 57-44, to end the first half.
- Matthew Ellis finished the first half with a game-leading 19 points.
3rd Quarter – UVic 79, TWU 62
- UVic finished the final 2:30 of the third on a 9-2 run, holding the Spartans scoreless for the final 1:30 of play.
- Outscoring TWU 23-18, the Vikes increased their lead to 17 points in the third.
4th Quarter – UVic 104, TWU 66
- Notching the first seven points of the final quarter, the Vikes forced a TWU timeout after taking their largest lead of the game at 24, 86-62.
- Locking in on defence, the Vikes allowed just four points to the Spartans in the fourth quarter, holding TWU scoreless for the first six and a half minutes of the final quarter.Â
WORTH NOTING
- The 38-point win over the Spartans marked the highest number of points scored by the Vikes in a contest between the two teams (previously 99, Feb. 13, 2015), as well as marks the largest margin of victory over TWU (previously 30, Nov. 23, 2018).
- UVic picked up a win in its Canada West opener for the first time since the 2016-17 season, an 80-72 win over Mount Royal.
- Ellis and Maffia finished as the top point-scorers for the Vikes, picking up 23 and 20 points, respectively.
- Oliveri picked up a team-high eight rebounds, and added 14 points in the Vikes' win.
- Victoria finished the night with a 53.3% field goal average, including a 42.9% average from three-point range.
