VICTORIA – Beginning their quests for Canada West titles, the University of Victoria men's and women's soccer teams begin their playoff campaigns, Oct. 30, with the men's side hosting MacEwan University at Centennial Stadium and the women taking on Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C.

FAST FACTS
- The men's side head in to the weekend as the top seed in the Canada West west division with an overall record of 6-3-3, hosting fourth-seeded MacEwan from the central division, who finished the regular season at 4-4-2.
- The women's team, seeded fourth in the west with a regular season record of 4-5-3, take on the top west division seed Trinity Western, who are also ranked No. 1 in the nation by U SPORTS with an 11-0-1 record.
- UVic and MacEwan last met Sept. 16, 2018 in Edmonton, Alta. The Vikes came away with a 3-1 win over the Griffins.
- For MacEwan, Saturday marks their first appearance in Canada West soccer postseason play since joining the league in 2014.
- On the women' side, the Vikes and Spartans met twice in the regular season in Langley, with the Spartans coming away with 3-0 and 1-0 victories, Oct. 8-9.
- Trinity Kettyls and Emma Skalik broke Victoria's scoring drought, as Kettyls scored Oct. 22 and Skalik Oct. 23 against UBC. Both players lead all Vikes with three goals on the season.
- After a point-less start to the regular season, Isaac Koch broke through in the final weeks to take over as the men's team leader in points (7) and goals (5). Ian Whibley sits right behind with four goals and six points on the season.
- Koch, along with co-captain Evan Libke, were selected as Canada West First Team All-Stars for their performances during the 2021 season, Oct. 29.
UP NEXT
A "one-and-done" tournament format, the Saturday night results will determine the Vikes' fate. For both teams, a win would send them to the Canada West Final Four, while a loss would end UVic's season.
