VICTORIA - It took 120 minutes instead of the usual 90, but the University of Victoria men's soccer team downed MacEwan University, 6-3, Oct. 30 at Centennial Stadium to punch their ticket to the Canada West semifinals next weekend, Nov. 5-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
14th Minute - UVic 1, GMU 0
- Awarded a penalty kick after MacEwan was called for a foul during a scramble in the box, Isaac Koch stepped to the dot and buried the ball in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
16th Minute - UVic 2, GMU 0
- Breaking away down field, Mark Kaiser would whip the ball to the foot of Ian Whibley, who needed just one touch for the finish to send the ball over the line.
45th Minute +2 - UVic 2, GMU 1
- Â With just seconds remaining in the added time by the referees, the Griffins caught the Vikes' defence off guard and netted their first goal of the game.
53rd Minute - UVic 3, GMU 1
- Whibley would swipe the ball from MacEwan and fire off a shot from the top of the box, sailing to the back of the net to extend UVic's lead.
57th Minute - UVic 3, GMU 2
- Â Finding an open man inside the six-yard box, MacEwan would pull back within one with their second goal of the night.
 66th Minute - UVic 3, GMU 3
- The Griffins would pull even with just under 25 minutes to play in regulation.
 91st Minute - UVic 4, GMU 3
- Needing less than a minute to seal the game's fate, Matteo Ventura would net the game-winner, also his first goal of the season, on a pass from Whibley.
94th Minute - UVic 5, GMU 3
- Not done yet, Whibley would secure the hat trick on a pass from Koch to build the Vikes' lead.
102nd Minute - UVic 6, GMU 3
- Putting one last goal on the board, Luc Brix Monteiro found a waiting Ventura, who shot one over the line for the Vikes' final goal of the night.
WORTH NOTING
- Â The Vikes move to 7-3-3 on the season with the win, and earn a spot in the semifinals of the Canada West Final Four.
- UVic's six goals mark the most in a game by the Vikes since an 8-0 win over UNBC, Sept. 8, 2012.
- Victoria out-shot the Griffins 20-to-9 on the night, including holding a 10-to-8 shots on goal advantage.Â
- Harjot Nijjar finished the game with five saves in 120 minutes in goal.
