VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's field hockey team blanked the University of Calgary Dinos, 8-0, Oct. 15 on the newly-unveiled UVic Field Hockey Turf.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter – UVic 1, CGY 0
- A long pass into the circle from the right side found a waiting Chloe Langkammer right in front of the net, who was able to put the ball in the net for the 1-0 Vikes' lead in the second minute.
2nd Quarter – UVic 3, CGY 0
- Madeline Mittelsteadt doubled the Vikes' lead in the 20th minute, sending the ball from the right side of the field to the back left of the net on the ground for the 2-0 lead.
- A laser shot from Anna Mollenhauer from the top of the circle found the back of the net in the 25th minute for the 3-0 Vikes lead.
3rd Quarter – UVic 6, CGY 0
- A couple quick passes on the penalty corner led to the Vikes being in a 2-on-2 situation with the Dinos. Mittelsteadt came out on top, scoring her second goal of the game in the 34th minute for the 4-0 Victoria lead.
- Two quick passes found Langkammer front and centre of the net, who sent it over the line for the 5-0 Vikes lead in the 36th minute.
- A Libby Hogg straight-shot from top centre of circle in 42nd minute gave the Vikes the 6-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.
4th Quarter – UVic 8, CGY 0
- Recording the hat trick, Langkammer's shot from right side slipped past the Calgary goalkeeper for the 7-0 UVic lead 57 minutes in.
- Stefanie Sajko notched the final Vikes goal of the day, bouncing the pass from Nora Struchtrup to the back of the net to seal the win, 8-0, in the 58th minute.
WORTH NOTING
- Langkammer's hat trick marked her second of the season, also recording one in the season-opening win at Calgary, Sept. 10.
- Rookie goalkeeper Daya Shields has now shutout Calgary in their last three meetings.
- The Vikes' five different goal scorers tie for the most in a single game this season, also recording five in game two at Calgary, Sept. 11.
- The 8-0 win is the second-largest margin of victory for the Vikes this season after notching a 9-0 win at Calgary, Sept. 10.
- The Vikes move to 4-0-1 on the season, while the Dinos drop to 0-7.
