Vikes and Spartans draw at Centennial

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's soccer team fought back to claim a 3-3 draw against Trinity Western University, Oct. 15 at Centennial Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
13th Minute – TWU 1, UVic 0
  • A pass off a spin move found an open Spartan, who launched the ball to the back of the net for the lead.
17th Minute – UVic 1, TWU 1
  • A pass from Trinity Kettyls bounced to Emma Dewit at the top of the six-yard box, who sent it over the TWU goalkeeper to the top of the net for the equalizer.
20th Minute – UVic 2, TWU 1 32nd Minute – UVic 2, TWU 2
  • The Spartans corralled the deflection of their initial shot, finding open space to score and even the game.
37th Minute – TWU 3, UVic 2
  • Trinity Western regained the lead with a cross to their waiting player inside the box who sent it over the line.
73rd Minute – UVic 3, TWU 3
  • Awarded a penalty kick, Emma Skalik stepped to the line to take it. After the TWU keeper made the save, Skalik was able to gather the deflection and send it to the back left of the net to seal the final score at 3-3.
WORTH NOTING
  • Sydney Casidy made her first career start as a Vike against the Spartans.
  • Fingarson netted her first career goal as a Vike in the draw.
  • The Vikes and Spartans finished even in shots on the night, 13-13, but Trinity Western claimed the advantages in shots on goals (6-5) and corners (6-4).
  • Kayley Lidstone finished with three saves for UVic.
  • The result was the Vikes' first tie against the Spartans since Oct. 20, 2017 at Centennial Stadium, and first non-loss to TWU since Oct. 20, 2018, a 2-1 win in Victoria.
  • The Vikes close out the Canada West regular season with a record of 4-6-4, while the Spartans finish with a mark of 9-2-3.
