VICTORIA - The University of Victoria women's field hockey team shutout the University of Calgary, 7-0, Oct. 16 on the UVic Field Hockey Turf to win the weekend series against the Dinos.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter – UVic 2, CGY 0
- Chloe Langkammer put the Vikes on the board after slipping the ball past three Dinos defenders for the goal in the sixth minute.
- A hack from the left side by Anna Mollenhauer found the back right of the goal to double the Vikes' lead in the 14th minute.
2nd Quarter – UVic 4, CGY 0
- After her initial shot attempt was pushed away by the Calgary goalkeeper, Nora Struchtrup gathered the rebound and sent it over the outstretched keeper for the 3-0 Vikes lead in the 20th minute.
- After successfully clearing a Calgary corner attempt, the Vikes charged back down the field on a breakaway, getting the ball to Langkammer who netted her second goal of the day in the 23rd minute to give Victoria a four-goal lead at the half.
3rd Quarter – UVic 6, CGY 0
- A high shot from Erin Dawson was tapped in by Melanie Robertson in the opening minute of the second half, putting the Vikes ahead, 5-0.
- Awarded a penalty corner, the Vikes sent the ball to Anna Mollenhauer, who moved her way into the circle and sent a shot straight to the back of the net from centre for the 45th-minute goal.
4th Quarter – UVic 7, CGY 0
- A feed-in pass from Robertson took a 90-degree bounce off Struchtrup's stick, shooting to the back of the net to seal the Vikes' win at 7-0 in the 56th minute.
WORTH NOTING
- Robertson's goal marked her first goal of the season.
- Mollenhauer, Langkammer and Struchtrup each recorded two goals in the win, marking the first time this season the Vikes have had three players score two or more goals in a game.
- Goalkeeper Daya Shields recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
- The Vikes finish the 2022 season with a 4-0 record against Calgary.
- Victoria now holds a record of 5-0-1 heading in to their final weekend of play, while Calgary ends their 2022 campaign at 0-8.
UP NEXT
The Vikes will head to Vancouver, B.C. to take on the University of British Columbia in the final Canada West weekend series of the season. The series will determine the conference champion.
