Langley, B.C. - The University of Victoria men's rugby team defeated Trinity Western University, 35-26, Oct. 22 at Langley Events Centre.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half - TWU 19, UVic 18
- The Spartans jumped out to a 12-0 lead in first 10 minutes of play.
- Asfand Saeed put the Vikes on the board in the 19th minute with a try, bringing the score to 12-5.
- Ethan Hager closed the gap further in the 25th minute, putting the ball through the uprights on a penalty goal attempt to make the score 12-8 in favour of the Spartans.
- Back-to-back tries from Jonas Robinson in the 33rd and 38th minutes gave the Vikes their first lead of the day, 18-12.
- A try and convert from Trinity Western in 40th minute gave the hosts the 19-18 lead before the half.
Second Half - UVic 35, TWU 26
- The Spartans opened the second-half scoring with a try and convert, making the score 26-18 in 49th minute for TWU.
- Marcus Lott got the Vikes back in the game in the 61st minute with a try, narrowing Trinity Western's lead to 26-23.
- A try and convert by Hager put the Vikes back in front, 30-26, in the 71st minute.
- A second try from Lott in the 75th minute sealed the Vikes' win, 35-26.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes have secured their place at the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship with the win.
- UVic moves back to .500 at 3-3 with the win, while the Spartans drop to 1-5.
