Basketball opens 2022-23 season at Lethbridge

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria men's and women's basketball teams open the 2022-23 Canada West season at the University of Lethbridge, Nov. 4-5.

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes open the 2022 season on the road, heading to Lethbridge for a two-game series, Nov. 4-5.
  • Men's basketball finished the 2021-22 season with a 17-1 Canada West record and 21-3 overall mark, capturing the Canada West conference championship and making an appearance at the U SPORTS Final 8. 
  • Women's basketball went 11-7 in Canada West play last season, closing the season with an overall 11-8 record and an appearance in the second round of the conference playoffs.
  • In the Canada West preseason coaches poll, the Vikes men were picked to finish first, while the Vikes women were picked to finish seventh in the league.
  • The Vikes women return Canada West First Team All-Star Ashlyn Day to the 2022-23 roster, while welcoming new faces in Kate Johnson, Tegan MacKinnon, and Brooke Kendal.
  • Day led all of Canada West last season with a 19.7 points per game average.
  • Bolstering the Vikes' men's roster is 2022 Canada West Rookie of the Year and All-Canadian selection Elias Ralph, along with Canada West Second Team All-Star Diego Maffia and all-rookie pick Ethan Boag.
  • Maffia's 17.5 points per game average led the Vikes in 2021-22.
  • Lethbridge's men's team posted an 8-8 conference mark and 9-9 overall tally last season, and was led by Jeff Rodehutskors with a 12.6 points per game scoring average.
  • The Pronghorns women went 10-6 in conference play last season, finishing the season at 12-8 overall. Jessica Haenni led Lethbridge with a 15.6 points per game average in 2021-22.
