VICTORIA – Taking game one in the best-of-three series, the University of Victoria women's field hockey team defeated York University, 2-0, at the U SPORTS championships on the UVic Field Hockey Turf, Nov. 4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
2nd Quarter – UVic 1, York 0
- Quick passes in the circle found Chloe Langkammer waiting on the right side of the goal for the 1-0 Vikes lead in the 24th minute.
4th Quarter – UVic 2, York 0
- Passing the ball from right to left, a tap from Anni Kleinschmidt put it past the goalkeeper to seal the Vikes' win at 2-0 in the 55th minute.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes are one win away from clinching their fourth-straight U SPORTS national title.
- Langkammer's goal marked her 10th of the year while Kleinschmidt secured her third.
- Daya Shields and the Vikes' defence recorded their sixth shutout in nine games.
- The Vikes remain unbeaten at 8-0-1 with the win, while York moves to 9-3-1 with the loss.
